BNP leader Dulu sent to jail, 11 activists remanded

A court in Dhaka has sent BNP Organizing Secretary Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu to jail and put the party's 11 other leaders and activists on a two-day remand in a sabotage case.

Those who were remanded are Bhola Jubo Dal president, and organizing secretary Jamal Uddin and Monir Hossain respectively, Abir Islam Satter, Md Taj Mohammad Khan Mamun, Md Shimul Bishwas, Md Sohel, Md Mostaq Hossain Munna, Abdul Mannan Sheikh Babu, Maksudur Rahman, Golam Mostafa and Shahinur Rahman.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ali Haider passed the order on Wednesday.

Earlier, police produced Dulu and the 11 others before the court in the case filed with Badda Police Station in the capital, seeking confinement of the former in prison and a five-day remand against the latter while the lawyer for the defendants prayed for bail.

The remand plea said a team of police conducted a special drive in Badda Police Station area on Tuesday.

At that time, they came to know that some people gathered Baithakhali 30 Feet Road area under the police station to commit subversive acts.

Sensing the presence of police, the accused named in the statement and other ones with locally made weapons attacked the cops, leaving sub-inspector Manik Kumar Sikder, assistant sub-inspector Md Al Mamun Parvez and constable Motahar Hossain injured.

Police said the accused in interrogation told them that they gathered there in a call by Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu.
