BNP leader Annie sent to jail after remand

A court in Dhaka has sent BNP publicity secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie to jail after the completion of a four-day remand in a case filed for allegedly obstructing police performing duties and vandalizing vehicles.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mamunur Rashid passed the order on Saturday after a hearing.

Earlier, police produced him before the court and sought to confine him in prison until the investigation ended.

On Wednesday, a Dhaka court placed him on a four-day remand in the case filed with Dhanmondi Police Station in the capital that ended today.

The law enforcers in plainclothes allegedly picked up Annie from his residence in Dhanmondi early Wednesday.

Later, he was shown arrested in two cases filed with Lakshmipur Police Station and Dhanmondi Police Station.
