A senior citizen being pushed to death on excuses of law: Fakhrul
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is being pushed toward death on excuses of law, the party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Tuesday.
He said, "The fundamental and constitutional rights of a senior citizen (Khaleda Zia) are being denied. She is being pushed toward death on excuses of law. Its result won't be good."
Mirza Fakhrul made the remark in a press conference at the party chief's Gulshan political office in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Urging the government to allow her go abroad for treatment, he said it would, otherwise, be held responsible for any situation.
Criticizing the statement of the ministers 'Khaleda Zia cannot receive treatment abroad as she is a convict,' the BNP secretary general said convicts' taking treatment in a foreign country is not something new, and it is possible if the government wants.
Earlier JSD leader ASM Abdur Rob received treatment in Germany despite being a convict and Imran Khan-led government allowed sentenced Nawaz Sharif to take treatment abroad, he added.
He also said the party will continue all democratic processes for Khaleda Zia's treatment.
Asked whether the BNP will take part in the next general elections keeping Khaleda Zia in this situation, he said, "Abdosulutly not, even we won't participate in the elections until Sheikh Hasina resigns."
He termed indecent Prime Minister's statements about Khaleda Zia's treatment and said those revealed her political and personal vengeance. "I have no words to condemn those."
