Vandalizing garbage truck: Trial starts against Fakhrul, Rizvi

A court in Dhaka has indicted eight people, including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, in a case filed for allegedly vandalizing garbage truck in the capital.

The six other accused are Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Dhaka South City secretary Dr Muhammad Shafiqul Islam Masud, Saiful Alam Nirab, Moazzem Hossain Babu, Azizul Bari Helal, Quazi Rezaul Haque Babu and Khandaker Enamul Haque Enam.

The court of Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain framed charges against them on Sunday, rejecting a prayer to acquit them from charges.

The court also fixed September 20 to take testimony in the lawsuit.

According to the case statement, around 200 to 250 leaders and activists of BNP, led by Mirza Fakhrul and Rizvi, blocked road at Minto Road in Dhaka on December 9, 2012.

During the blockade, they vandalized garbage truck of Dhaka South City Corporation and detonated explosive substances.
