Trial starts against Rizvi, Shohel in constable Shamim murder

A court in Dhaka has indicted seven people, including BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and its Joint Secretary General Habibun Nabi Khan Shohel, in the murder case of police constable Shamim.

The five other accused are Abdus Satter, Shah Alam, Anwar Hossain Tipu, and Alfas alias Abbas.

Acting Judge Bilkis Akter of the Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court of Dhaka framed charges against them on Thursday.

Rizvi's lawyer Syed Joynul Abedin Mesbah confirmed the matter.

BSS adds: According to the charge sheet of the case, on January 17 in 2015, Tipu hurled several cocktails and two petrol bombs at a bus carrying police personnel, injuring more than 12 police officers.

Police Sub-Inspector Shafiqul Islam filed a violence case the next day with Ramna Thana in this connection.

Nineteen days later, Shamim Miah, a police constable who suffered severe burns and splinter injuries that day, died while undergoing treatment at a city hospital.

Later, on July 14 in 2016, CID Police Inspector Md Ali Akkas pressed charge sheet against 7 in a murder case.
