HC orders BTRC to remove Tarique’s speeches from social media
The High Court (HC) has directed the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove all speeches recently made by BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman from social media.
The HC bench of Justice Md Khasruzzaman and Justice Md Khairul Alam passed the order on Monday.
Meanwhile, the lawyers of BNP expressed no confidence to the Chief Justice against this bench of the HC.
Advocate Nasrin Siddiqa Lina filed a petition with the concerned department of the HC in this regard on Sunday.
On 22 August, the HC ordered to include in the agenda of today’s hearing the issue of banning the broadcasting of Tarique’s speeches on media and social media.
The HC on August 13 had ordered to correct the addresses of Tarique Rahman and send its notice regarding the rule on those addresses.
Advocate Nasrin Siddiqa Lina on January 6, 2015, filed the writ, pleading for court’s instructions to take necessary measures not to publish, broadcast, screen and reproduce any statement of Tarique Rahman in any newspaper, electronic media, social media or any other electronic device or media, as he is a fugitive convict.
The High Court on January 7, 2015, issued the interim rule over banning the publication and broadcasting of Tarique Rahman’s speech in media.
