A writ petition has been filed with the High Court challenging the announcement of Bangladesh Bar Council election results.

Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond who failed to win in the contest, submitted the petition with the HC on Sunday also seeking a rule upon the bar council chairman to explain why he should not be directed to count the ballot papers of the poll.

He said in the plea, the bar council chairman has to count all the ballot papers received from various polling centers after the August 26 elections as per rule 15 (2) bar council law.

The HC may hold hearing on the petition later in the day, he also said.

Ruling Awami League backed lawyer panel Sammilito Ainjibi Samannoy Parishad Parishad won 11 posts of executive members in the elections while pro-BNP lawyer forum Jatiyatabadi Oikya Panel got three posts.
