The Chittagong University authorities have suspended two students for six months over beating a journalist on campus.

Those who were expelled are Khaled Masud, a 2017-18 session student of Law Department and law affairs secretary of CU unit Bangladesh Chhatra League and Arafat Rayhan, a 2018-19 session student of Sociology Department and deputy office secretary of the unit BCL.

The decision was taken in a virtual meeting of the university's Board of Residence Health and Disciplinary Committee on Thursday, CU Proctor Dr Mohammad Nurul Azim Sikder confirmed.

However, Chittagong University journalist association general secretary Imam Imu called the suspension decision farce.

Earlier on June 19, around 10/12 leaders and activists of Chhatra League beat up Dosto Mohammad, a member of CU journalist association and correspondent of Dainik Amader Natun Shomoy, over sitting on chair.

Injured Mohammad is now undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

The university administration formed a three-member committee on June 20 to look into the matter.
