Hero Alam gets back candidature

Independent candidate Hero Alam on Thursday got back his candidature for Dhaka-17 by-polls as the Election Commission (EC) declared his nomination paper valid after a hearing held at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon.

Ashok Kumar Debnath, Additional Secretary of the EC, confirmed the matter to Jago News. 

Earlier on June 18, the EC cancelled the nomination paper of Hero Alam as he failed to submit signatures of one percent voters of the constituency.

The candidatures of six others were also declared invalid at that time.

The by-election to the Dhaka-17 constituency that fell vacant following the death of ruling Awami League lawmaker and noted film actor Akbar Hossain Pathan Farooque will be held on July 17.

According to the election schedule, the last date for withdrawal of candidature is June 25.
