Anwaruzzaman wins Sylhet city polls
Awami League candidate Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury has been elected mayor unofficially in the Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) elections.
He defeated his closest rival Jatiya Party candidate Nazrul Islam by 69,830 votes.
Returning Officer Foysol Kader announced the unofficial results on Wednesday night.
Anwaruzzaman bagged 119,991 votes with boat symbol while his closest rival Nazrul got 50,161 votes.
Independent candidate Shahjahan secured 29,688 votes while Islami Andolon Bangladesh candidate Mahmudul Hasan received 12,794 votes.
Earlier, the elections were held in Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in all 190 centers under 42 wards from 8am to 4pm without any break.
The total number of voters in the corporation was 486,605.
