Khaleda Zia rushed to hospital at midnight
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was rushed to a hospital in Dhaka after she fell ill at her home in the wee hours of Tuesday.
She left her Gulshan home ‘Feroza’ around 1am and reached Evercare Hospital at 1:40am.
Khaleda’s medical board members Dr F M Siddique and Dr A Z M Jahid Hossain did a preliminary check up on her and then decided to send her to the hospital.
BNP media cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan confirmed the matter to Jago News.
However, hearing the news of Khaleda’s sickness, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, its Standing Committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Aman Ullah Aman, Shama Ubaid, Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas went to her home to visit her.
Earlier on April 27, Khaleda was admitted to the hospital on advice of her physicians.
Khaleda Zia has been suffering from arthritis, diabetes, kidney, lung, and eye issues for a long time. She was diagnosed with Covid-19 and spent 81 days in hospital care in 2021.
She also experienced bleeding in the digestive tract and liver cirrhosis later in November.
Khaleda Zia was convicted in two graft cases and taken to jail more than 5 years ago. In April 2020, in the light of the Covid pandemic, the government granted a request from her family for a conditional temporary release from jail for “humanitarian reasons”.
She has since stayed at her Gulshan home under the care of her personal doctors and has had limited interaction with others.
Her family has petitioned the government several times for permission to take her abroad for medical treatment. The government has repeatedly denied the request, claiming it is impossible under the current law that allows her to stay out of jail.
