Nure Alam Siddique passes away

Nure Alam Siddique, one of the key organizers of Bangladesh Liberation War and former Awami League lawmaker, has died.

He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at United Hospital in the capital early Wednesday. 

His namaz-e-janaza will be held at Azad Mosque in Gulshan after Asr prayer. He will be given a guard of honour and buried in Savar. Earlier, his body will be taken to his village home in Jhenaidah. 

His press secretary Aniket Rajesh confirmed the matter to Jago News. 

He served as the President of Bangladesh Chhatra League from 1970 to 1972. He was known as one of the four caliphs, or ‘Char Khalifa’ of Bangabandhu during Liberation War. 

He was elected Member of Parliament from the then Jashore-2 Constituency as a candidate of Awami League in the first national parliamentary election in 1973.

Nure Alam took part in the 1996 and 2001 parliamentary elections as an Awami League candidate from Jhenaidah-2 constituency.

He was born on 26 May 1940 in Jhenaidah district.
