BNP not invited for dialogue: CEC
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has said the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was not invited for a dialogue but they were urged for an informal discussion.
The CEC said this at a press conference held at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon on Tuesday.
“The government has no connection with EC’s invitation to BNP,” CEC said, adding that this is a strategy of Election Commission, not the government’s.
In a reply to the questions from journalists, the CEC said it is better to bring a party like BNP to the elections. For this reason, they were invited informally.
He said they didn’t invite BNP after being pressured by any international group. All election commissioners sat and took the decision to send the letter to BNP.
