BCL expels 5 leaders, activists for IU student torture

Bangladesh Chhatra League has expelled five leaders and activists accused of torturing a female student of Islamic University, Kushtia.

The student wing of the ruling Awami League made the disclosure in a statement published on its verified Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon.

The statement said Islamic University, Kushtia unit Chhatra League vice president Sanjida Chowdhury Antora and activists Tabassum Islam, Israt Zahan Mim, Halima Khatun Urmi and Muabia Zahan were expelled for involving themselves in the offenses that go against the organization's discipline and damage its image.

Earlier, a female student of Islamic University, Kushtia accused the university unit Bangladesh Chhatra League vice president Sanjida Chowdhury Antora, her associate Tabassum and several others of physically torturing her.

She alleged they assaulted her in a mass room of Deshratna Sheikh Hasina Hall from 11 pm on February 11 to 3 am on February 12.
