People paying the price for govt's looting in power sector: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said people have to pay the price repeatedly for the government's unlimited irregularities, corruption and looting in the power sector.

Public pockets are being picked by increasing power prices due to the government and its loyals' corruption and looting. Today people awoke against the pocket-picking government, he said.

Mirza Fakhrul made the remarks in a press release on Wednesday, a day after the government hiked the prices of electricity at retail and wholesale levels.

He said people are already in immense suffering because of the government's failure, graft, looting, mismanagement and wrong policy, in this situation, raising power prices in phases is an anti-people and irrational decision.

As a result of the power price increase, the price of everything will rise which burden people will no longer bear, the BNP secretary added.

He also said there is no people's government, that is why prices of daily essentials, including electricity, gas, fuel, and edible oil, are being increased during a hard time.
