AL declares general mercy for its over 100 leaders-workers

The ruling Awami League has declared general mercy for the party’s over 100 leaders and workers who were found involved with violating the organizational discipline including becoming rebel candidates in different local government polls.

Party’s General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader told journalists after the AL National Committee’s meeting at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official Ganabhaban residence on Saturday night, reports BSS. 

He said over 100 leaders among those who violated party’s discipline submitted application seeking mercy.

Awami League President Sheikh Hasina forgave them and the national committee unanimously declared general mercy, Quader said, adding that if anyone apart from these leaders and workers want to seek mercy they can do so.

A three-member election committee has been formed for the national council of the party, he said.

The committee members are Yusuf Hossain Humayun, Sahabuddin Chuppu and Mashiur Rahman, he said.

Quader said the cost of holding AL’s national council on December 24 next has been reduced by Taka 30 lakh.
