The seven lawmakers of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have submitted their resignation letters to the Speaker of the Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury.
Gulam Mohammad Siraj of Bogura-6, Zahidur Rahman of Thakurgaon-3, Mosharrof Hosen of Bogura-4, Aminul Islam of Chapainawabganj-2 and reserved seat lawmaker Barrister Rumeen Farhana went to the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat around 11am on Sunday and handed in their resignation letters.
Harunur Rashid of Chapainawabganj-3 and Abdus Sattar of Brahmanbaria-2 submitted their resignation through Rumeen. Rashid is now abroad while Sattar is ill.
After submitting resignation letters, five BNP lawmakers told journalists that they resigned from the 11th National Parliament to strengthen the movement to overthrow the government.
Earlier on Saturday afternoon, the resignation of the seven BNP lawmakers was announced from the party’s Dhaka divisional mass rally held at Golapbagh field in the capital’s Sayedabad.
Later, they one after another announced to quit as parliament members at the rally but Chapainawabganj-3 MP was not present there as he is in Australia.
