This war for bringing back democracy ousting Hasina: Fakhrul
Terming BNP's ongoing movement a new war, its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday said the battle is for bringing back the country's democracy by ousting Sheikh Hasina from power.
"You (countrymen) embarked on a new war. This war is for bringing back democracy in the country by overthrowing Sheikh Hasina," he said.
Speaking at BNP's divisional mass rally in Sylhet on Saturday, Mirza Fakhrul also said the fighting is for liberating the country and bringing back people's own, and their voting rights.
"We must win this war," he said.
The BNP secretary general reiterated Sheikh Hasina must resign from parliament, dissolve it and hand over power to a neutral caretaker government.
Mentioning that the government threatens BNP's fate will be like Hefazat-e-Islam, he said, "I want to clearly say threats will not work as people have woken up and they will not return home without victory."
Presided over by Sylhet district BNP President Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury, BNP standing committee members Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Abdul Moyeen Khan, and the party's joint secretary general Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, among others, spoke at the program.
The rally was held on the ground of Govt. Madrasah-e-Alia, Sylhet today as part of BNP's mass rally at divisional cities seeking the party chief Khaleda Zia's unconditional release, election-time non-party impartial government, and protesting fuel prices hike, deaths of leaders and activists by police, attack and false cases against them.
