BNP is the father of politics of revenge: Obaidul Quader
Claiming that Awami League does not believe in the politics of revenge, Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said BNP is the father of such politics.
“The August of 1975 gives testimony that who does the politics of revenge. The August 21 grenade attack proves who does the politics of revenge,” he told a press briefing at the Setu Bhaban in capital Dhaka.
Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said the name of the AL is the name of the efforts to move forward together against the BNP’s politics of revenge.
Bangabandhu’s daughter, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, rushed to the BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s house to express sympathy over the grief of losing Khaleda Zia’s son as the AL president wanted to create a trend of liberal politics, he said.
Reminding the BNP leaders of such kindness, the AL general secretary questioned, “Did you remember how inhumanly behaviours you showed then?”
“Begum Zia was invited to Ganabhaban ahead of the elections, in what language did you reply? Even so, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held dialogues with BNP for two times,” he said.
Quader said Sheikh Hasina had shown generosity to the BNP considering the interest of the country and its people at the time when BNP hatched plots to remove the AL.
The AL president has given Khaleza Zia to receive treatment staying at her home by releasing her from prison, he said.
Responding to a statement of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir that the government is worried about the Zia family, the AL general secretary said everyone knows the history of misrule and corruption of the Zia family.
Terming the BNP’s politics as the politics of fleeing away on undertakings, he said BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman is now in exile as he was convicted in various charges, including corruption, looting and misdeeds, and he does not have the courage to return home.
About the BNP’s habit and culture of finding fault in everything with the government, Quader said the court issued an arrest warrant against Tarique Rahman and his wife in a graft case.
“It is a legal process. There is no government interference here,” he added.
The AL general secretary said that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed cases against many people of the ruling AL and the probes are under against some of them.
The ACC is playing an independent role in this regard, he said.
