Swechchasebak League leader murder: 7 to die, 3 get life term
A Dhaka court has sentenced seven people to death and three others to life term imprisonment in a case filed for the murder of Mymensingh’s Gouripur upazila Swechchasebak League unit General Secretary and UCCA Limited Chairman Masudur Rahman Shuvra.
Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 Judge Monir Kamal passed the order on Monday.
The court also acquitted nine people in the case.
The death-row convicts are Moilakanda union parishad Chairman Riyad Uzzaman Riyad, Gouripur municipality unit Chhatra Dal Joint Secretary Sakib Ahmed Reza, Mymensingh district (north) unit Swechchasebak Dal member Mozammel Haque, Khairul Islam, Maeen Uddin, Ruhul Amin and Shariful Islam Nayeem.
The convicts who got life term are Masud Parvez Karzan, Chhatra Dal activist Shariyatullah alias Sumon and Juba Dal activist Rasel Miah.
The acquitted people are Gouripur municipality mayor Syed Rafiqul Islam, Syed Toufiqul Islam, Syed Mazharul Islam Jewel, Chhatra Dal activist Rifat, Md Abu Hanifa, Swechchasebak Dal leader Jahangir Alam, Juba Dal activist Mojibur Rahman, Kamal Miah and Shahjahan Miah.
On October 17, 2020, the miscreants hacked Shuvra to death at Gouripur Madhyabazar around 10pm. Later, his younger brother Abidur Rahman Pranta filed a murder case with Gouripur Police Station. Mymensingh district DB police submitted a charge sheet against 19 people to the court in the case.
