Ex-BCL president Ripon picked for Gaibandha-5 by-polls

Awami League has nominated former Bangladesh Chhatra League central president Mahmud Hasan Ripon for by-election to Gaibandha-5 (Saghata-Fulchhari) constituency which is scheduled to be held on October 12. 

The decision was taken at a joint meeting of the party's parliamentary nomination board, and local government representative nomination board held at Ganabhaban in the capital of Dhaka on Saturday.

A reliable source in the nomination boards confirmed the matter to Jago News. 

The parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of AL MP and Jatiya Sangsad Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbia Miah on July 23.

Mahmud Hasan Ripon, however, served Bangladesh Chhatra League as its central president from 2006 to 2011.
