Quader urges public transport drivers to follow highway rules properly
Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday urged drivers of public transports across the country to remain cautious and follow proper rules on the highways to keep their Eid journey safe and sound, reports BSS.
"Thousands of people are going to their respective homes to observe Eid-ul-Azha with their loved ones. Because of newly inaugurated Padma Bridge, more people from the country's southern and western regions have joined this Eid journey. I urge all the drivers of the public transport to drive their vehicles carefully," he said.
Quader, also the general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, said this at a press briefing held at his residence.
The transport minister also called for commuting on highways by giving priority to human lives, rather than time.
"Apart from those, which are carrying emergency and export goods, we should keep the operations of trucks and covered vans, suspended for certain time.
We should also be alert so that the cattle markets beside the highways cannot cross their designated boundary. The growing infection rate of Covid-19 is another challenge for us and little lethargy and negligence towards health safety can invite terrible disaster," Obaidul Quader added.
He called upon all to wear masks all time during the Eid-holiday season.
