Joynal Hazari passes away

Awami League advisory committee member and former lawmaker from Feni Joynal Abedin Hazari has passed away. He was 76. 

He, a lifelong bachelor, breathed his last on Monday afternoon while undergoing treatment at Labaid Specialized Hospital in the capital of Dhaka.   

Feni district Awami League general secretary and parliament member Nizam Uddin Hazari and Joynal Hazari edited 'Hazarika Pratidin' newspaper's news editor Jashim Uddin confirmed the matter to Jago News.

Labaid Hospital public relations officer Meher A Khoda told Jago News that Joynal Hazari died around 4:15 pm while undergoing treatment on life support at the cardiac department. 

He suffered a cardiac arrest this morning and breathed his last on life support this afternoon, Meher said.

Three days ago, he got admitted to the coronary care unit (CCU) of the hospital with various complications, including heart disease, the official added. 

Joynal Hazari was born on August 24, 1945, in Sahadebpur of Feni district town. His parents are Abdul Gani Hazari and Rizia Begum.

He started politics in student life and became general secretary (GS) of then Chhatra Majlish (Now student union) of Feni Government College.

Then, he was made general secretary of greater Noakhali district Chhatra League, and subsequently, presidium member of Juba League.  

The freedom fighter served Feni district Awami League as general secretary from 1984 to 2004.

He won the national parliamentary election three times from Feni-2 constituency (Sadar) in 1986, 1991, and 1996.

He also became president of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on youth and sports affairs.

The joint forces raided his home on the night of August 17 after the Caretaker Government had come into power before the 2001 general election but he managed to flee to India.

In 2004, he was expelled from Awami League.

The politician came back home from India after Awami League had formed the government in 2009.

After returning home, he surrendered before court in several cases, and got acquittal from all the lawsuits one after another but could not get back his position in Feni district AL. 

Then, he concentrated on editing a newspaper named Hazarika Pratidin.

Lastly, in 2019, he secured a post to the advisory council of Awami League.
