Golam Rabbani injured in knife attack
Former General Secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League and Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) Golam Rabbani was injured in a knife attack in Rajoir upazila of Madaripur district on Sunday afternoon.
The incident took place at Gangkandi Government School center under Ishibpur union during the voting of 4th phase union parishad elections there.
Rajoir Police Station officer in-charge Sheikh Sadik confirmed the matter to Jago News.
Local sources said Golam Rabbani has been campaigning for independent candidate in Ishibpur UP polls and his uncle (maternal) Salah Uddin for a few days.
Today he locked into an altercation with Sohel Molla, the son of his uncle's rival candidate Mosharaf Molla, over the allegations of vote-rigging brought against the former.
At one stage, a knife attack was carried on the former BCL leader, leaving his two fingers of hand injured.
Later, he was admitted to Rajoir Upazila Health Complex and being treated.
About this, Golam Rabbani said the men of Mosharaf Molla were trying to vote rigging in broad daylight.
Later, he was hacked with locally made arms when he wanted to know the matter of vote fraud.
Rajoi Police Station OC Sadik told Jago News that Golam Rabbani was attacked when he repeatedly entered Gangkandi Government School center to see the vote of his uncle's election.
Being informed, police and the Rapid Action Battalion members went to the spot and brought the situation under control.
