War crimes: BNP ex-MP Momin gets death penalty
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 has sentenced former BNP lawmaker Abdul Momin Talukder Khoka to death in the case filed for committing crimes against humanity in Bagura during the 1971 Liberation War.
A three-member tribunal headed by ICT-1 Chairman Justice Md Shahinur Islam passed the order on Wednesday.
The two other members are Justice Abu Ahmed Jamadar and Justice K M Hafijul Alam.
Earlier on Monday, the ICT-1 fixed today for announcing judgment in the case.
On October 31, the tribunal kept the judgment on CAV, curia advisory vault (a Latin legal term, meaning court awaits judgment) as both the prosecution and defence concluded their arguments in the case on that day.
The war crimes case was filed against him in March 2011 by Subid Ali, a freedom fighter of Kayetpara village, with a local court. The case was later forwarded to the International Crimes tribunal.
To be noted, Momin became a lawmaker from Bogra’s Adamdighi area in 2001 and 2008 elections from the BNP.
