Jamaat secy gen Golam Porwar, 8 others remanded
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar and its eight other leaders have been placed on a four-day remand in a case filed under Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009.
The rest who were remanded are the party Assistant Secretary General Maulana Raifqul Islam Khan and Hamidur Rahman Azad, executive council members Izzat Ullah, Mobarak Hossain, and Abdur Rob, activists Monirul Islam and Abdul Kalam, and former Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir president Yeasin Arafat.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Mahmuda Akter on Tuesday passed the order after police had produced them before the court, seeking a 10-day remand in custody.
Police detained the Jamaat leaders from Bashundhara residential area in the capital on Monday.
Later, a case was lodged against them and many unidentified people with Bhatara Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Gulshan Division deputy commissioner Md Asaduzzaman had said they nabbed the Jamaat leaders while plotting anti-state and subversive acts in a secret meeting in Bashundhara residential area.
