Police have arrested an 'active member' of banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir in the capital.

Arrested Abiaz Ahmed Sarker alias Ratul, 28, is the fourth year student of BSC in IT department at University of Information Technology an Sciences (UITS).

Acting on a tip-off, a team of police's Anti Terrorism Unit nabbed Ratul from Mohakhali area on Monday night, ATU media and awareness unit SP Mohammad Aslam Khan confirmed to Jago News on Tuesday afternoon.

He said Ratul and his other associates had distributed leaflets among people, including pasting posters on the walls in different places of the country, with a view to holding online council of the outlawed organization in October last year.

Besides, they have long been conducting different programmes to establish 'Caliphate' in the country by ousting current democratic government, Aslam Khan added.

According to police, Ratul had, however, been on the run in a case filed with Bhatara Police Station.
