BCL leader held on charge of extortion
Police have arrested a local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League in Rajshahi city on charge of demanding extortion from a contractor.
Arrested Imran, 27, is a member of recently dissolved Rajshahi city Chhatra League.
The detective branch of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) in a drive nabbed him from Rajib Chattar area of the city around 10pm on Tuesday, said Rajpara Police Station officer in-charge Mazharul Islam.
Earlier, a case was lodged with the police station accusing the BCL leader of seeking extortion from a contractor in Bohrompur area in the city recently and hurting a worker after he did not get the same.
There were allegations against Imran that he had been realizing extortion from different contracting entities in Dashpukur, Bohrompur, Terkhadia, Bosua and adjacent areas of the city.
