BNP leader Moudud Ahmed dies
BNP Standing Committe Member Barrister Moudud Ahmed passed away at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore on Tuesday. He was 81.
He breathed his last at the hospital around 6pm, confirmed BNP Chairperson's Press Wing member Shayrul Kabir Khan.
Earlier on February 2, Moudud was admitted to the hospital, and he was taken at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on March following deterioration of his physical condition.
At that time, Moudud's private assistant Mominur Rahman Sujan said capability of his lungs to take oxygen has decreased vastly, and problems were also found in his kidneys.
Barrister Moudud Ahmed was former prime minister and former deputy president. He was one of the founders of BNP and Jatiya Party. During four-party alliance-led government, he was Law, Justice and Parliament Affairs Minister.
Moudud Ahmed was born in Companiganj upazila of Noakhali district on May 24, 1940.
The BNP leader was, however, son-in-law of poet Jasimuddin, populary known as Palli Kabi (folk poet).
