AL picks Nayan for by-polls to Papul's seat

Awami League (AL) has nominated Noor Uddin Chowdhury Nayan for the by-election to Lakshmipur-2 constituency.

The party nomination board took the decision in a meeting at Ganabhaban in the capital on Saturday, a source in the official residence of the Prime Minister confirmed.

The Election Commission (EC), however, set April 11 to hold the by-polls to Lakshmipur-2 with the use of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).

Parliament membership of the lawmaker from the seat Kazi Shahid Islam Papul was scrapped, and the constituency was declared vacant following a Kuwaiti court jailed him for four years for money laundering and human trafficking.
