Papia, husband indicted in arms case
Shamima Nur Papia, the expelled general secretary of Narsingdi Juba Mahila League, and her husband Mofizur Rahman Sumon have been charged in an arms case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayes framed the charges against the couple on Sunday.
Earlier on June 29, the case investigation officer and RAB's deputy inspector Arifuzzaman pressed charges in the case lodged with city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
However, the couple faced two other cases over recovery of fake currency and liquor.
On February 22, the Rapid Action Battalion members arrested Papia and three others from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while they were leaving the country.
Seven passports, cash around Tk 2.12 lakh, fake currency worth about Tk 25,600, and 11,091 US dollars as well as currencies of various countries were recovered from their possession.
Following the day, the elite force raided her Narsingdi home, and luxurious presidential suite at The Westin Dhaka booked in their names.
After her arrest, RAB said they assumed the expelled Juba Mahila League leader, Papia, had long been running 'sex trade' in the hotel through a few young women. People of the society's elite class were their customers.
