5 BNP leaders gets anticipatory bail

The High Court has granted eight-week anticipatory bail to BNP vice chairman Abdullah Al Noman and four others in a case filed with Shahbagh police station over clash between police and BNP men in front of the Supreme Court in Dhaka.

The four other BNP leaders are - Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anny, Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel, Shah Mohammad Abu Jafar and Meer Sarafat Ali Sabu.  

A HC bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan passed the order on Sunday.

The court also ordered them to surrender before the trail court within eight weeks.   

According to the case statement, two police personnel were injured in a clash between a group of BNP leaders and activists and police while they were staging demonstration in front of the Supreme Court on Tuesday, seeking release of the party chief Khaleda Zia.

A number of vehicles were vandalized during the clash.

Later at night, Shahbagh police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Matiur Rahman filed the case on charges of vandalism and assault on police against 28 identified and more than 500 unidentified people in connection with the clash.
