Movement not possible with only ‘facebooking’: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday urged their party leaders and activists to mobilise people to take to the streets instead of remaining active on Facebook, UNB reports.

“We must spread to every village across the country to wake up people. There’s no alternative to it and the youth must do it,” he said.

Speaking at a discussion, the BNP leader further said, “A movement can’t be waged only remaining active on the Facebook and posting photos there. We must mobilize people and encourage them to take to the streets.”

Jatiya Party (Zafar) arranged the programme at the Jatiya Press Club, marking the 4th death anniversary of its founder Kazi Zafar Ahmed.

Fakhrul also called upon all political parties to get united to restore democracy ousting the current government.

About their party female MP barrister Rumeen Farhana’s application seeking a 10-katha land from the government, the BNP leader urged their party leaders and activists not to criticise her on the social media.

He also urged the pro-democratic forces not to get divided at the instigation by government agencies.

“There’s no reason to react on the Facebook over some trivial issues. We must think whether we’re on the right track to achieve our main goal. We shouldn’t bury anyone for a minor mistake,” the BNP leader observed.

He alleged that some media outlets are trying to malign Rumeen over the issue taking a stance against her. “Rumeen didn’t do anything unfair. She might not have understood a small matter.”

Fakhrul reminded the BNP leaders and activists that Rumeen has been vocal against this government both in parliament and outside of it.

“I call upon our like-minded people not make any comment or write against her or our any other leader on the Facebook. It’ll only hamper our movement,” he added.
