BNP’s sample of saving democracy threatening for country: Hasan

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said the sample of saving democracy of BNP is threatening for the country’s democracy as they killed people by throwing petrol bombs in the name of movement, reports BSS.

“The countrymen had witness the sample of saving democracy of BNP in 2013, 2014 and 2015 . . . I firmly believe that the people would not allowed them again to do that,” he told reporters after attending a function at Daffodil University campus in city’s Dhanmondi.

Multimedia and Creative Technology (MCT) Department of the university organised the function named ‘MCT Carrier Expo-2019’.

Former Director General of Bangladesh Television and Shilpakala Academy Mostafa Monowar addressed the programme as the special guest with acting Vice-Chancellor SM Mahbub Ul Haque in the chair. Head of the MCT Department Dr Sheikh Muhammad Aleyar and Director of Carrier Development Centre Abu Taher Khan also addressed, among others, at the function.

Hasan said BNP was born in non-democratic way. “Zia had captured the power in an illegal way with some opportunists who defiled the politics. Zia formed BNP along with the opportunists in non-democratic way. The all activities of Zia were illegal as per the verdict of the High Court,” he added.

The minister said actually, the politics of BNP is established on lies. “So that, the people of the country don’t believe them (BNP),” he added.

Dr Hasan, also Awami League publicity and publication secretary, said, “I firmly believe that a strong opposition party is needed to save democracy. We want logic-base criticism. But, BNP always did blind criticism which is threatening for the democracy.”

About BNP-backed lawyers’ procession, Dr Hasan said they can do all political activities freely. The law enforces agencies will take action if they create any anarchy in the name of movement, he added.

Replying to comment of BNP leaders, Hasan said the government does not interfere in the cases of BNP Chief Begum Khaleda Zia.

Dr Hasan said Begum Zia has already got bail in some cases. So, there is no other ways to release her as the court will decide whether she will be released or not, the minister added.

He said Begum Zia is in prison after being convicted in a graft case and her release would not be possible through movement as it is only the court that can release her.

Urging students learn how to dream, Hasan said dream is must for a human being. Otherwise none can move ahead, he said, adding that there will be needed efforts to make the dream true.

The minister urged the students to take proper care to their parents in their old-age. “Every parents take care of their children . . . you should also take care of your parents in their old-age,” he added.

“Bangladesh is moving ahead under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said, adding that the country has graduated to a developing country from a least developed one and this has been possible only for Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina’s magical leadership.
