1 killed in AL factional clash in Sunamganj

A Sramik League man was killed and 35 others including police members injured in a factional clash of Awami League over establishing supremacy at Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj on Tuesday night.  

The deceased was identified as Shahab Uddin, 50, a Sramik League activist, son of Abdus Sobahan. 

According to the source, there had been a feud between Chhatak municipality mayor and Sunamganj district AL unit Joint Secretary Abul Kalam Chowdhury and his younger brother local AL leader Shamim Chowdhury.  

The supporters of them locked into a clash and exchanged fire in front of the Jalalia madrasa. At one stage, Sramik League activist Shahab Uddin received a bullet and was sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead. Thirty-five people including police members were injured in this incident.     

In this connection, Barkotullah Khan, Sunamganj superintendent of police, said additional police were deployed to control untoward situation.
