BNP MP-elect Zahid takes oath

BNP MP-elect Zahidur Rahman Zahid from Thakurgaon-3 was sworn in as a lawmaker on Thursday noon.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury administered the oath at a ceremony at her office in the parliament at 12:15 pm.

Earlier this morning, he sent a letter to the speaker expressing his interest to take the oath as a member of parliament.

BNP led Jatiya Oikyafront got eight seats in the December 30 national elections. Of the total, Gonoforum, a component in the Jatiya Oikyafront, got two seats while BNP got six seats.

Immediately after the December 30 elections, the Jatiya Oikyafront rejected the polls result alleging widespread irregularities and vote rigging.

However, the two Gono Forum MPs have already taken oath ignoring the party’s decision, for which, Gonoforum has expelled Sultan Mohammad Monsur elected from Moulvibazar-2 from the party.

The party also said they would take action against Mokabbir Khan, who was elected from Sylhet-2.
