JCD besieges DU VC office

The Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on Sunday noon besieged the Vice Chancellor’s office of Dhaka University demanding seven-point demand including the installation of the poling centres for DUCSU polls at academic buildings instead of halls.

Earlier, the leaders and activists of JCD led by its central president Rajib Ahsan and general secretary Akramul Hasan brought out a procession from Madhur Canteen at 12:30 pm and later gathered at the VC office.

Around 150 leaders and activists took part in the programme.

According to the elections schedule, the date of the nomination form submission is February 26. The DUCSU polls will be held on March 11.

DUCSU elections was held 36 times after its inception during the 1922-1923 sessions. But, the student parliament elections came to a stop after the fall of HM Ershad’s dictatorship in 1990.

DUCSU was formed in 1924 after the establishment of Dhaka University in 1921, and its first vice-president was nominated in the 1924-25 academic session.

The latest DUCSU elections were held in 1990. It was the sixth election after the independence of Bangladesh.
