AL nominates chairman candidates for 2nd phase UZ polls

Awami League (AL) has finalized nominations of its chairman candidates for the election to 122 upazilas in second phase.  

The nominations were finalized at a joint meeting of the AL Parliamentary Board and Local Government Election Nomination Board held at Ganabhaban, the official residence of the Prime Minister on Saturday night. 

AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader announced the name for the election at a press conference held at the party president’s Dhanmondi political office on Sunday at 11:30 am. 

Among others, AL Joint General Secretary Mahbub Ul Alam Hanif, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Organizing Secretary Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud, Deputy Publicity Secretary Aminul Islam were present.

Here is the list of AL chairman candidates for the second phase upazila polls.

The first upazila parishad election was held in 1985, while the following three were held in 1990, 2009 and 2014. The last one was organised in six phases.
