AL names Atiqul as mayoral candidate for DNCC

The Awami League has nominated Md Atiqul Islam, former president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), as mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) by-election.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the party’s nomination board at the Awami League president’s official residence on Saturday night.
After the meeting, Awami League General Secretary and also Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader announced the name while addressing a press conference there.
The DNCC mayoral post fell vacant after the death of Annisul Huq on November 30, 2017.
