AL to finalize DNCC nomination on Jan 26
The ruling Awami League (AL) would finalize candidature for by-polls to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral post on January 26.
“Nomination Board will finalize the candidate for mayoral post of Dhaka North City Corporation,” Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader told journalists today after a meeting at newly-constructed BRTA Bhaban in the city, reports BSS.
Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Chairman Md Moshiur Rahman and senior officials, among others, were present at the function.
Quader said, “I hope that Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) election will be competitive. The candidate for the election to Kishoreganj-1 constituency also will be finalized.”
He asked officials concerned to perform their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty as the government will show zero tolerance against all kinds of corruptions and irregularities.
About the progress of the Padma Bridge, Quader said the construction of the bridge has been going on fast as 63 percent overall work of the project has already been completed.
The ruling Awami League has asked aspirants to collect party nomination forms for taking part in the election to Kishoreganj-1 constituency by-polls to DNCC mayoral post, and fresh election to three municipalities and 30 union parishads.
Aspirants can collect forms from the party president’s Dhanmondi political office from 10 am to 5 pm on January 23-25 and they will have to submit the applications after filling up properly by 5 pm on January 25.
The Election Commission has announced the schedule for a fresh election to Kishoreganj-1 constituency as elected MP of the seat Syed Ashraful Islam died before taking oath.
The reschedule of the by-polls to DNCC mayoral post has also been announced following a High Court verdict that cleared the way for holding the election to the DNCC mayoral post and polls in the 36 new wards under the DNCC and DSCC.
DNCC mayoral post fell vacant following the death of its mayor Annisul Huq.
