AL to join UZ polls without alliance: Quader

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said AL will take part in the upcoming upazila parishad election under party banner, not as part of an alliance.

“We never took part in upazila parishad polls as part of an alliance and would not do so this time too. We will join the election with our party’s election symbol,” he told an extended meeting of Dhaka City North AL at a convention center in city’s Dhanmondi in Dhaka, reports BSS.

The meeting was arranged preparatory to a victory rally on January 19 at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan to celebrate the party’s landslide win in the December 30 polls.

Quader said presidents and general secretaries of AL’s district and upazila units would send three names to the party nomination board to select a candidate for every upazila.

He said candidates would be chosen on the basis of surveys conducted over the election.

Dhaka City North AL general secretary Sadek Khan and joint general secretary SM Mannan Kachi attended the meeting.
