Orphanage Trust case: Khaleda seeks stay on HC verdict
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is now in jail, has filed an appeal seeking stay on a High Court (HC) verdict that increased her jail term from 5 years to 10 years in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
Khaleda’s lawyer Joynul Abedin Tuhin on Monday filed the appeal with concerned department of the High Court.
Earlier On October 30, the High Court extended her five-year jail term that was handed down by a lower court in the corruption case.
The new punishment was 10 years imprisonment.
On February 8, the Dhaka Special Judges Court-5 sentenced the BNP chairperson to five years’ imprisonment and five other accused in the case, including her son and BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman, to 10 years’ imprisonment each.
The ACC filed a revision appeal seeking her sentence to be extended to life imprisonment.
