BNP, police clash: 3 cases filed, 65 arrested

Police have filed three cases against some named BNP leaders and activists and some unnamed people following the Wednesday’s clash at Naya Paltan. 

BNP standing committee members Mirza Abbas and his wife Mahila Dal president Afroza Abbas were the main accused in the cases. 

Police on Wednesday night filed the cases with Paltan Police Station for damaging the state property, obstruction to government duty and murder attempt on police.   

In this connection, Mahmud Hossain, officer-in-charge of Paltan Police Station, said a total of 65 people have been arrested till the morning in the cases.

A duty officer said on anonymity that BNP top leaders including Mirza Abbas and his wife were accused in the cases. 

BNP chairperson adviser and former Member of the Parliament Helaluzzaman Talukder Lalu and 64 others have been arrested. 

Earlier on Wednesday noon, BNP leaders and activists locked in a clash with police over their gathering on the road of Naya Paltan while they were collecting nomination form from the party’s political office.
