BNP forms human chain for Khaleda’s release

The leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have formed a human chain protesting a jail sentence against its party chief Khaleda Zia and demanding immediate release of her. 

The one-hour human chain began at 11am and ended at 12pm in front of the National Press Club on Wednesday.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members Dr. Khandakar Mosarraf Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Dr. Abdul Moeen, Vice Chairman Selima Rahman, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Barkatullah Bulu, Abdul Awal Mintoo and Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal were present among others in the event.

Earlier on Tuesday, the High Court extended the jail term of former Prime Minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia from 5 years to 10 years in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

On Feb 8, Special Judge-5 Dr Akhtaruzzaman sentenced the former prime minister to five years in prison for embezzling funds donated to the Zia Orphanage Trust.
