Placing a seven-point demand and a 12-point vision to hold a free and fair election under a neutral government, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Sunday announced two-day long nationwide programme.

The party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the programme at the party’s rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka.

Under the two-day programme, the party will hold rally at each of the district headquarters and submit memorandum to deputy commissioners’ office on October 3.

On October 4, the party will also hold rallies at divisional headquarters and metropolitan cities and submit memorandum to divisional commissioners.

The demands include unconditional release of party chairperson Khaleda Zia withdrawal of false cases against her before announcement of the election schedule, withdrawal of all false cases against the party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman and all other political leaders, dissolving parliament and stepping down of the government before polls, forming neutral government consulting all political parties and reconstitution of the Election Commission.

Thousands of leaders and activists of the party poured into Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka to attend the rally.

The rally was organised demanding release of the party chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail and holding next general poll under a neutral government.

Leaders and activists of BNP and its front and associate organisations from Dhaka city and different parts of the country started gathering at the venue around 11:00am.

Law enforcers are deployed at different points while water-cannons and armoured personnel vehicles were placed near the venue.
