Amir Khasru to face ACC grilling

BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury now has to face Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) questioning over his alleged graft charge as the High Court today summarily rejected his plea challenging ACC notice in this regard, reports BSS.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Md. Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice K. M. Hafizul Alam passed the order after holding hearing on the plea on last Tuesday.

Former law minister and fellow BNP leader Moudud Ahmed took part in the hearing for Chowdhury, while Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan moved the case for ACC.

“The court has summarily rejected Chowdhury’s plea to stay the ACC notice that asked him to appear before the anti-graft body. So now he will have to appear before the ACC for sure,” advocate Khan told newsmen.

Earlier on August 16, ACC director Qazi Shafikul Alam asked the BNP standing committee member to appear at his office on August 28 to face questioning over allegations like running hotel business under fake name, money laundering, buying shares in the names of his wife and other members of the family, and amassing illegal wealth, among others.

After receiving the notice, the BNP leader pleaded for one month time, which was allowed by the ACC. It asked him to appear before it on September 3. But Chowdhury on September 3 filed the writ with High Court.
