Home boss again urged to shift Khaleda to United Hospital
A high-profile BNP delegation on Sunday met Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and urged him to immediately shift the jailed party chairperson Khaleda Zia to United Hospital for her better treatment.
A 7-member BNP delegation, led by the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir met the home minister at his Secretariat office around 3:00pm and made the plea.
‘We have told him that our chairperson needs improved treatment and she desires to get treatment at United Hospital and he told us that he will consult jail authorities and others concerned and then take the decision,’ Fakhrul told reporters after emerging from the meeting.
‘We hope that the government will ensure treatment of Khaleda Zia at United Hospital,’ he said.
BNP senior leaders Jamiruddin Sircar, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Nazrul Islam Khan, Rafiqul Islam Mia, Mirza Abbas, Abdul Moin Khan accompanied Fakhrul in the meeting.
Earlier on Thursday, Khaleda Zia’s personal secretary ABM Sattar sent a letter to the home ministry and sought Asaduzzaman’s nod to hold a meeting with him to discuss over the treatment of Khaleda Zia.
In response to the letter, the home minister has given his nod for talks with the BNP delegation and scheduled to hold the meeting on Sunday afternoon.
BNP leaders have been alleging for the last two days that their chairperson’s health condition has deteriorated sharply and she needs to receive treatment in any specialised hospital.
Khaleda has been staying in the jail since a special court convicted her in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on 8 February last.
