Khaleda gets bail in case for demeaning martyrs

The High Court has granted bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a case filed over demeaning Liberation War martyrs.

The HC bench of Justice Muhammad Abdul Hafiz and Justice Kashefa Hussain passed the order on Tuesday.

Earlier on Monday, BNP Chairperson filed a petition with the High Court seeking bail in the case.

In January 2016, AB Siddique, president of Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad, a pro-Awami League organisation, filed the case against the BNP chairperson over her alleged insulting remarks on the Liberation War martyrs.

On December 21 in 2015, Khaleda said in a public address, “There are controversies over how many were martyred in the Liberation War.”

On July 15 this year, a Dhaka court denied Khaleda bail in the case.

Earlier on July 11, the same court issued arrest warrants against Khaleda Zia in the same case.

On February 8, Khaleda was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
