SC order over Khaleda’s bail Wednesday
The Supreme Court has deferred until Wednesday to deliver its verdict on the petitions filed against the High Court order that granted bail to BNP chief Khaleda Zia in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hussain fixed the date after hearing some arguments from both the prosecution and defence attorney.
The bench, led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, was scheduled to pass the order on Tuesday.
But the court deferred the date after Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Advocate Jainul Abedin placed some arguments.
The High Court on March 12 granted 4-month bail for Khaleda in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
Earlier, she landed in jail on February 8, after being sentenced to five years’ rigorous imprisonment in the same case.
Afterwards, the apex court stayed the HC bail order following the petitions filed by the ACC and the government.
