Zia Charitable case: Khaleda’s bail extended till June 4
A Dhaka court has again extended till June 4 the bail of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case.
Judge Md Akhteruzzaman of the Special Judge Court 5 passed the order following a petition filed by the BNP chief’s lawyers on Thursday.
However, the BNP chairperson was not produced before the court from jail as she was ill.
Meanwhile, for the fourth time, Khaleda was kept from appearing before the court at today’s hearing.
In the previous hearing, Khaleda’s bail in this case was extended until today (May 10).
On February 8, Khaleda, accused in over 34 cases, was convicted for five years’ rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. Her bail is yet to be settled at the Supreme Court.
The ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case with Ramna Police Station in July 2008, accusing the six of misappropriating over Tk 2.1 crore that came from a foreign bank as grants for orphans.
